MS Sleipner, 26 November 1999 — Norway’s worst night at sea. A brand-new high-speed ferry struck Store Bloksen off Haugesund at full speed. The grounding was survivable — but the emergency power flooded, the life rafts never opened, and the life jackets wouldn’t hold. 16 of 85 never made it home. The youngest was ten.
