One renegade battleship against the entire Japanese task force.
In operation Aegis, seven ships are tasked to eliminate an enemy convoy while monitoring a friendly set of five transport ships to which they would transport those ships to the extraction point whilst holding the task force back as much as possible.
Of the 7 ships that were in Operation Aegis, only 1 completed the mission: the German battleship Scharnhorst.
The lead ship in a series of two battleships designed for raiding operations entered service a few months before the outbreak of World War II. Scharnhorst conducted her first battle raid in November 1939. It was followed by support for a landing in Norway, a raid into the Atlantic Ocean, and a breakthrough across the English Channel. In 1943, the battleship was transferred to Norway to attack enemy Arctic convoys. On December 26, 1943, Scharnhorst, flying Rear Admiral Erich Bey's flag, was sunk in battle by an Allied squadron off the North Cape.
With its prowess unfolding as a means of taking out the Japanese ships, the German BB went against overwhelming odds as it was like a naval reenactment to Lord Tennyson's poem "Charge of the Light Brigade."
A ship to the left, a ship to the right, a ship in front, volley and thundering the seas with its screws, storming the squad and ultimately the lone battleship in the end with every shell, yet its mighty armor it not fell.
With almost 300K dmg, this battleship proved its worth.
Additional credit goes to the rest of the squad whose contributions in Aegis were what made this battle emerge victorious.
