My focus focus in all of environmental art series has been the relationship, and conflict, between Man and Nature.

Residence of Impermanence, my latest project in a twenty-year career, is an exploration of where Man has arrived as a species. I have devoted seven years and considerable amounts of money collecting taxidermied animals, often rare trophy specimens for this project. The animals are set against lavish English Victorian wallpapers, representing the Era of Man ́s conquest of Nature. I then set them on fire in a ritualistic performance.

The project, of course, directly connects to worldwide issues. I want to make a statement on the global impacts of the collision between Man’s ego and Nature’s fragility—glaciers melt and sea levels rise, forests disappear and species become extinct.
Since the dawn of Man, we have mirrored ourselves in animals. Not only have we needed them for food and survival, but as crucial elements in understanding ourselves through myth, spirituality, religion, fairytales and art.

In my exploration I invite viewers to ask their own questions, bring their own references. In the meantime, I ask myself: In what way can art influence our relation to Nature? What can art do to create questions regarding climate change and how can we
move toward a regenerative future?

Residence of Impermanence has been exhibited solo at Galleri FineArt in Oslo, Buer Gallery (Oslo), Galerie Omnius (Arles) and Fotografiska (Stockholm), as well as Fossekleiva Museum (Norway).
