Trolltunga from Odda - as it really is

The hike from Odda to Trolltunga.

Hiking date: 02/09/2018
Elevation: 1,100 m
Distance: 28 km
Duration: 12 h (Waiting time included)
Translation: Troll tongue (Norwegian)

Description of VisitNorway (https://bit.ly/2sI17eG):

Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. Trolltunga is situated about 1100 meters above sea level, hovering 700 metres above lake Ringedalsvatnet. The view is breathtaking. The hike starts in Skjeggedal and goes through the high mountains, takes 10-12 hours (27,5 km in total to Trolltunga and return) and the ascent is about 1000 meters. IT IS A LONG AND DEMANDING HIKE. The trail is marked from the parking lot in Skjeggedal to Trolltunga. Along the trail there are signs showing the distance left to Trolltunga. CONSIDER CAREFULLY WHETHER YOU ARE IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE AND HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT BEFORE SETTING OUT. There is partly mobile phone coverage (Telenor) along the route. The hike is usually possible to do from mid-June, depending on when the snow melts in the mountains. Normally one can hike to Trolltunga until mid-September. WARNING - DO NOT TRY TO HIKE TO TROLLTUNGA IN WINTERTIME. From February you can join guided snowshoe hikes with Trolltunga Active. If you are inexperienced with challenging mountain hikes, you should join a guided tour of Trolltunga.

All nature based activities are at your own risk. You will need sturdy hiking boots, bring extra warm clothing, rainwear and be prepared for bad weather. Bring map and compass, plenty to eat and drink, a torch and a simple first aid kit. Weather in the high mountains can change quickly - check the latest weather forecast before going to Trolltunga. DO NOT hike to Trolltunga in strong wind, heavy rain or in foggy weather. It is always colder in the mountains than down by the fjord. Respect the nature.

Every year there are search and rescue operations for hikers in serious trouble. Prepare well and be a responsible and safe hiker. Start early in the morning. Norway is far north, meaning daylight is short from September and nights are very cold. We recommend starting at latest 8:00 in the morning.

If you want to stay overnight in the mountain area around Trolltunga you have to bring your own tent.

Depending on snow and weather conditions, the season will vary from year to year.

15 June-15 September Recommended season (average year).

16 September-28 October Recommmend with guide.

29 October-16 February NOT recommended, highly dangerous.

17 February-14 June Recommmend with guide (snowshoes).

Trolltunga shuttle: (15 June - 15 Sept.) Pick-up service from the major providers of accommodation in Odda.
Price (return ticket) Odda - Skjeggedal NOK 250

Hello,
Here's the video from trip to Trolltunga in Norway, which took place in days: 15.08.2018 - 19.08.2018.
A few months earlier, we were dancing at a birthday party and talking about our dreams. It was like: "there's awesome place to take photo", "where?", "in Norway", "so let's go there and take it!", and we did :D

Most parts were recorded with LG Spirit, so quality isn't perfect.

I want to thank Klaudyna - without her, i would not go and see it.

It's a short version, the long one here:
Треккинг к Языку Тролля (Trolltunga) считается довольно опасным и восхождение is very demanding. Это путь высокого уровня сложности: 22 км, 8-10 часов пути. Не смотря на это, это один из самых популярных треккинговых маршрутов в Норвегии. И, конечно, мы не могли туда не пойти!

Become a part of our incredible hike up to the spectacular Trolltunga in Norway.

The hike is 28km roundtrip with a total elevation difference of 1100 meters and even if it indeed was a hard hike it was worth every step and every heavy breath.

We went up in the late afternoon and spent the night up in the mountains camping in a tent so that we could enjoy both the sunset and the morning light before we headed back down again the next morning.

This is by far one of the most amazing places we´ve even been too, and the hike itself is really beautiful as well.

Hike to Trolltunga NORWAY

At the western edge of the Hardangervidda plateau, you’ll find Trolltunga – the most spectacular rock formation in Norway. Trolltunga is a rock jutting into space 700 metres above Ringedalsvatnet lake! The hike through high-mountain terrain up to Trolltunga is long and demanding, but you are rewarded with magnificent views. The trail to Trolltunga, situated at 1180 metres, is signposted. From the main trailhead at P2 in Skjeggedal, the round-trip hike is 28 km with an ascent of almost 800 metres. The estimated hiking time is 8–12 hours. There is an additional trailhead at P3 Mågelitopp. The round-trip hike from P3 Mågelitopp is 20 km with an ascent of about 320 metres. The estimated hiking time is 7–10 hours.
Trolltunga (English: Troll tongue) is a rock formation situated about 1,100 metres (3,600 ft) above sea level in Ullensvang Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The cliff juts horizontally out from the mountain, about 700 metres (2,300 ft) above the north side of the lake Ringedalsvatnet.[2]

Popularity of the hike to Trolltunga and rock formation itself has exploded in recent years. The increased popularity has turned Trolltunga into a national icon and a major tourist attraction for the region. Until 2010, fewer than 800 people hiked to Trolltunga each year. In 2016 more than 80,000 people hiked[3] the 27-kilometre (17 mi) round-trip from the village of Skjeggedal, making it one of Norway's most popular hikes.[4]

This is a very challenging hike, at least 10 hours on rough terrain. There are no shelters on the hike route and no places to buy supplies. However, there is a plan to build a lodge roughly halfway where hikers can rest.
Near the parking area at Skjeggedal there is a funicular called Mågelibanen (it is not in operation). The trail to Trolltunga begins here, on the left side of the funicular. It is marked with red Ts painted in the terrain, and signs along the route that marks the distance left to Trolltunga and to the starting point at Skjeggedal.

For the first 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi), up to the Måglitopp, the trail rises about 450 metres (1,480 ft). From here the track surfaces slightly out before it gets steep again, rising another 330 metres (1,080 ft) up from Gryteskaret to Trombåskåret. This section is the steepest part on this hike. But in recent years this section have been improved by Nepalese sherpas, making it easier to traverse.

After this 4-kilometre (2.5 mi) steep climb from the parking area, the next section slopes down towards Store Floren. The trail continues over Hesteflåene and the dried out river Endåno, before it gets steeper up to Endanuten and crosses the dried river to Tyssestrengene. From here the trail goes on past glacial potholes, then continues past Tysshøl, and finally approaches Trolltunga, about 13.5 kilometres (8.4 mi) from the starting point at Skjeggedal.

Trolltunga is accessible for experienced hikers and guided groups from mid-June to mid-September, depending on when the snow melts in the Spring. The season for guided trips with snowshoes or skis starts in March.

Trolltunga is located in a region with a mild and humid coastal climate. During summer and autumn the weather conditions often change quickly – from blue sky to wind, rain and dense fog. Check the weather forecast and ask locals about what kind of weather to expect before you go hiking.

Due to the long distance, hikers to Trolltunga need to start before 10:00 AM in the summer season[2] to get home before it gets dark and cold. In September it is recommended to start 8:00 AM at latest, since it gets darker earlier in the evening.
